Illinois’ nuclear facilities produce an overwhelming majority of the state’s carbon-free power and contribute to cleaner air for all of Illinois’ families. Without these facilities in operation, Illinois’ will see a significant increase in carbon and other pollutants. If these plants were to close, carbon dioxide pollution will increase by up to 20.2 million metric tons.
